Well, well, the sleepy little fishing village of San Felipe had a taste of the big city when the "Ladies" from the Lips nightclub in San Diego brought their talents south to town February 25th as a fund raiser for the San Felipe Animal Rescue (SFAR) and the opening event for "Woofstock 2008". The sunny Monday afternoon show at the Pavilion Restaurant was probably a more PG-13 version of what goes on Saturday night at their home base but they did put on a good time even though the music was exceedingly loud.

The audience of more than 260 men and women (more women) appeared to have fun, the Red Hatters, who liven up any occasion, were in evidence and the bingo cards were interesting: hanging chads!

The costumes were sparkly and glamorous with the possible exception of an edgy little black number accessorized by a riding crop and the music was 'way too loud.

The performers entered the room by the same aisle used by anyone making her way to the bar, so it was a good thing there was enough introduction to clear the way. We don't want any mistakes by amateurs here.

We saw 'Cher' beautifully done up and 'Tina Turner' doing an amazingly energetic shimmy in a dress composed entirely of tiers of fringe, while doing excellent lip-sync.

The three bingo games served mostly as a clever way to provide time for the costume changes and I am looking forward to seeing around town the winners wearing the Lips tee shirts given as prizes.

Did I mention the music was 'way too loud?
